This 1958 Chevrolet Corvette race car has a documented race history back to 1968 and was an active vintage racer from 1991-2014. It has an SCCA roll-bar number 99-008, which likely means an even earlier race history in the Midwest. The seller bought it as-is from Don Rettig, who campaigned in CSRG and HMSA for 28 years with great success. The 283 engine was tired, but the car was spectacular in every other way. His mechanic sourced an NOS date-correct block, and they used the heads, fuel injection system, and exhaust from the car to complete the build using all quality components. Everything has been gone through, and the car has been shown at the Hillsborough Concours. It is now available in Danville, California, for $70k. The logbook from 1991 onward lists all the CSRG efforts, including the Monterey Historics with photos. Two medallions came off the dash when the car was restored in the ’90s by Rettig, one from the 1968 Wor Games in Mid-Ohio and the other from the North Suburban Sports Cars Club race. Timing sheets are included. A past copy of the title and description from the past owner is included. The roll hoop number matches the logbook, which matches past history, so the car is well accepted as correct. It features the special 684 racing brakes and other factory race parts, but these are not documented as original, though that is possible, as no data plates were on the cars in ’58. The interior features an HMSA and CSRG legal roll bar with a Petty-bar and an attractive Lexan wrap-around screen for weight savings and better aero. The stock 3-spoke flat wheel looks great, as does the period black upholstery style. The engine was built on a new 283 block by Terry Tinney Performance Motors in Livermore, California. The seller says that it was $8k for the build, and another $2600 for the injection system rebuild by Jim Lockwood Fuel Injection Repair. It has only break-in hours since the build, and the dyno report shows 344.5 hp @6500 rpm, 323.3 lbs torque @ 4500 rpm. The transmission is a T-10 4-speed.
